Continuous Professional Development
Drawing on best practices from Denmark and the UK, this seminar explores the principles governing 4th Generation District Heating (4GDH) networks. It focuses on designing low-temperature, reliable, cost-effective, and future-proofed networks capable of integrating renewable energy sources and grid balancing strategies.
The CPD addresses all major areas of a heat network scheme:
Energy Centres: 4G energy centre design, choice of operating temperatures, thermal storage, and utilizing diversity factors to lower peak demand.
Heat Distribution: Minimizing network heat losses, low flow/return design temperatures, and pipe sizing criteria for space heating and domestic hot water (DHW).
Consumer Zone & HIUs: Advances in heat transfer technology, Heat Interface Unit (HIU) sizing, rapid control response, and radiator circuit balancing.
Metering & Optimization: How smart heat meters and continuous monitoring improve network performance.
4GDH operates at lower temperature levels than legacy systems, which significantly reduces network heat losses and allows seamless integration with renewable heat sources (such as heat pumps and solar thermal), electric boilers, and heat storage systems to address the Energy Trilemma (security, affordability, and sustainability).
This session is designed for building services mechanical consulting engineers, energy managers, district heating designers, and HVAC system engineers seeking to implement 4th generation low-temperature heat network standards.
Duration: Up to 1.5 hours (contributing 1.5 hours of formal CPD credit).
Format: Informal and interactive session with open Q&A throughout, available to be hosted at your company's premises or another venue of choice.
