Danfoss FlatStations - HIU

The Project

SAV Systems has supplied Danfoss FlatStation heat interface units (HIUs) to Walnut Court in Waltham Forest, significantly reducing energy consumption while giving residents improved control of their heating and hot water. Danfoss FlatStations were specified by Aston Group for their proven reliability, ease of installation and ability to ensure low return water temperatures for optimum plant efficiency.

The project was carried out on behalf of Ascham Homes, a not-for-profit Arm’s Length Management Organisation (ALMO) that manages housing on behalf of Waltham Forest Council.

Walnut Court has a central plant room serving 42 apartments through a district heating network. Aston Group’s Ian Cassidy recalled:

“The existing heating and stored water were difficult to control and did not maintain a high temperature differential in support of efficient plant operation. In selecting an alternative, usability for residents was a key consideration, as was the ability to underpin the efficiency of the whole system.”

Due to space restraints, a compact HIU was needed, a requirement SAV Systems fulfilled with the Danfoss 7 Series FlatStation DS-FI VVX-I-FI. The existing heating and stored water have now been replaced and each new Danfoss FlatStation is equipped with an energy meter for accurate metering and monitoring of energy consumption.

The result

Crucially, the new FlatStations have provided residents with greater flexibility, and reliability, of their heating and hot water. In praising Aston Group’s level of service and care during the project, former chairman of the residents’ committee Mr Savill enthused:

“The usability of the new system is outstanding.” He also noted: “Since the work was completed I have not run out of hot water!”
