Flexible Alupex Multilayer Piping
If your installers haven’t come across Alupex piping before, they could be pleasantly surprised! Have a look at the top banner image above, and you’ll see it used in a ceiling void. Alupex is easy to install and produces savings in piping site costs (relative to copper) of up to 60%. This estimate comes from BSRIA, the Building Services Research & Information Association.
Alupex consists of butt-welded aluminium piping, coated internally and externally in polyethylene. It has been in commercial use for 25 years, and has widespread acceptance across Europe.
It’s key benefit is flexibility. Although support bracketry can be at similar pitching to copper piping, Alupex large radius bends can be bent by hand, and using a spring for a bend radius down to 2 pipe diameters. All the bends and elbow pieces required by copper are no longer necessary!

Alupex can be supplied pre-insulated for use in heating services, thus producing another substantial site saving.
End connections are made easy by FAR brass adaptors. Each adaptor comes with two pairs of O-rings, split olive and compression nut. More importantly, each site with a complement of Alupex comes with SAV’s offer of site training for pipe installers. When the first pipe runs are about to be installed, SAV can come to site for a quick workshop on the do’s and don’ts of Alupex. Each fitter will get the practice necessary for confidence on 3 or 4 joints, after which they will know exactly how it’s done.
